Sources of funding for school/community gardens?

Everywhere I look seems to be saying that they're no longer accepting applications... Anyone know of a source of funding towards growing projects?

As I mentioned in another thread, our allotment chair has left, leaving 3 polytunnels up for sale. We have the funds to buy one of them, but of course it will need a new cover, and probably new timber, and that we don't have the funds for. The PTA might well grant us a bit of it, but I'd like to find some alternative sources too, that might also go towards beds, staging/work-space and all the other bits we'll need to equip it. The headteacher is amenable to it being used at weekends for courses teaching adults/the wider community how to grow, so it would come under community as well as school...

Any ideas anyone?

Think Zazzy is your woman for this. Of course it may be that once their financial year opens up again that wherever it is you are asking, may then say yes. Most run from April to end March.

A second hand tunnel without a skin isn't worth a lot. How much are they looking for it? A new tunnel 25ft x 10ft complete with skin is less than £400. Premier Polytunnels | 10ft Wide.

When I last priced for a new skin for my 25ft x 10ft tunnel, the cost was going to be around £100.

If you need to try to raise funds, it's coming up for a good time for a plant sale which local communities are generally happy to support. Time to sow seed for that now though.

It's 35ft x either 14ft or 16ft. Will cost about £150 to cover, and half as much again to buy the frame. Compared to £1000 for a new one of the same size, I'll think ourselves lucky if we get it in under £500 really. And at that size, it's a full outdoor classroom

We had some funding from our local "In Bloom" group. Do you have a local one?

It shouldn't take too long to raise £150: along the lines of a school fair, with plant/book/cake sales, raffle, throw-a-sponge-at-the-teacher, face painting, etc etc.

Co-op community fund gave us a grant, usually about £250, you could also ask you local uni, would that be Huddersfield? I did my PGCE at Craven College via HUddersfield. They should have a rag fund and often support community groups especially school based ones. Do you have an extended services scheme that funds out of hours activities in school? We got a grant from our local one and the school then match funded it. Ring the education dept and ask about extended services there may activity funding available.....I'll have a think.....
