Got a Blackberry, raspberry, redcurrant, and blackcurrant. Now the questions, my ground is not ready yet so can I pot them up in the meantime? Second question, what can I realistically leave to grow in a pot?

      As always thank you.
      Cheers

Just bought 2 different plum trees!!! .....BARGAIN !!!!!......

They look really healthy too for twigs

Our local Lidl had a sign saying that all non-food products will be reduced by 50% this weekend, so if there are any fruit bushes /trees left they'll be rediculously cheap!

I'm off to check our local Lidl now you've said that Nicos!
Broadway, I'd stick them all in pots for now until you've got your ground prepared, as for leaving them in pots it depends on how big your pots are. The only ones I've got permanently in a pot are autumn raspberries as they don't grow as tall as summer ones but I would think that the currants would be fine in large pots for a couple of years.

            Thanks Sue,

When you say the currants will be ok for a couple of years what do you mean exactly, they need re-potting, potting into bigger pots?

            Cheers............Danny

Hi Danny, if you want to get a decent crop off your currants I think you'll eventually have to plant them in the ground for them to grow big enough. I started off a redcurrant bush in a large pot for a couple of years & it was fine & then I planted it out in the ground where it romped away. It depends what you want to do, you could just repot it into a larger pot every couple of years I suppose if you don't have the ground to spare.

                Gotcha,

Will leave it in a pot for a couple of years and decide then!

                Again thanks for your help
                Cheers

Huhu, did not expect that! When I went into my local Lidl yesterday to get toilet paper, the fruitbushes and trees had arrived. Very late though, and VERY unannounced, but am so happy that I finally got some cheap Blueberrry bushes. Though they seemed very small and a bit weird. It did not say anything about ericaceous compost on the package either and they seem not to have properly rooted either.
But hey, at least they are only 99p and not £12.99 as in most gardening catalogues.
