Wood Preserver?

Hi,

A friend of mine made me a potato planter from some wood off-cuts.

Can someone recommend a good preserver that would not be dangerous through leaching into the soil.

By 'eck, they look the business! I would look for a preservative that is water-based and harmless to plants - can't remember the name just now but they are often sold for fencing - so they won't damage the plants growing up them.

cuprinol or any of the own brand water based wood preveravtives will do the job, they're realy impressive planters lucky you

Thanks for your input folks.

It is only one planter. I fill the base with compost and plant the spuds then as the foliage grows I add the 2nd tier and begin topping it up with compost.

Then as the spud foliage penetrates the surface I finally add the third tier and 2/3 top that one up with compost - after which I let the spud foliage grow.

I will plant it up with Wilja - a great potato for roast and bakers.
