Flintshire being a money grabbing non green council won't even subscribe to Recycle Now. I ordered two from Cheshire CC and had them delivered to an address in Chester.

Can you tell me if these bins work best or the wooden ones you make up from wooden pallets for making compost on an allotment ? I had a plastic one in the garden several years ago but it became a popular place to live for the local mice. I was only putting garden waste and vegetable peelings in it no food scraps. The thought of micce living in the one on the allotment is not too bad but I am not keen on the thought of rats visiting it. Cost wise the wood one will work out cheaper, as my council want £8 for one.

I would use wood as I have two that we made ourselves, old pieve of carpet over the top. We have two next to each other, which we use to turn over the compost, pallets are cheap and free where we are, local builders are obliging and even delivered some for us!

Thanks that is what I thought as I did not see any of the plastic ones in use on the site, except that my attempt at making one from pallets might prove a source of amusement to family and friends.

just ordered myself one and the indoor bin for all my bottles and tins, as my cardboard box is starting to get soggy !! no p&p to pay, and saved a £1.

We have been given free bins to collect compost stuff plus cooked & raw food, which apparantently goes to create fertiliser

It depends what you want really. I can't turn a compost heap, so the Daleks work best for me.

Mice & rats will only nest in them if they are kept too dry and not turned often enough.
