Traps the females as they go to lay eggs in the apple tree, which, unless they are stopped, the eggs metamorphose into larvae & munch on the fruit. Ta da!!

May, in my humble opinion, is a good month to start off BASIL from seed, and if you're not that clever, buy a healthy, sturdy plant from a supermarket, cut each stem off at the ankles, stick them in a glass of water, and within a matter of weeks, they will send out roots, so you can then pot them up in a pot of compost, and Bob's your Auntie.
And that's the easiest way to propogate Basil, if you don't want to do it from seed.

moggssue I think it will probably need a little extra stiffening by the end of the season. Trimming his box may cause untold damage if it receives abuse during the summer months..... :-)
