  • Free/Cheap Netting

If any grapes are looking for a cheap/free source of netting to protect crops from birds, or to let beans and peas climb up, try asking a local farmer if they have any netting to dispose of when they unwrap the large round bales of hay. I asked my neighbour and he was only too pleased to be rid of some (it mostly gets burned, or taken to the tip.) It won't stop cabbage whites as the holes are too big, but it has a multitude of other uses, so well worth asking about.

Excellent tip - I was also thinking about when I replace my net curtains which one of my cats has so deftly holed - they might also be of use?

Even if holed badly once on protection duty it will not matter if repairs are unsightly!

Until then - I have to repair - as cleverly as I can! And quietly scold the cat - I know which one she is! Rubee - I'm coming to get you now....keep running girl!
