Home made liquid feeds

I keep my liquid feed really simple.
Stuff a 4 pint plastic milk bottle with comfrey leaves. Top up with water. Put lid on. Leave outside (it stinks) for a couple of days/weeks.
Pour off liquid into watering can, top up can with water, water the plants.

Top up the milk bottle with more comfrey/water. Repeat ad infinitum.

I might try this idea. With the amount of comfey leaves I get, I could possibly have half a dozen bottles on the go at once and it won't stink until I open the lid! Wonder if it would work without adding the water to give a concentrate?
At present I have mine in a large container which I give a wide birth to when I go past it!

i found a big patch of nettles yesterday, and was thinking, of putting them through the blender (haven't got anything to store water in yet) then adding them to the watering can, would this work, or do they have to be left for a period of time?

I have a rainwater butt which I stuff full of comfrey and nettles and top up with pee. If it rains a lot I don't dilute it, if it doesn't, I do. The pong ensures that nobody hangs about for too long : )

i soak nettles and weeds in a bucket of water and leave for a few weeks, the nutients come out of the nettles and once you remove them your left with a natural free furtaliser.

It really stinks as I've had thing going for a couple of months......it wouldn't effect the taste of tomatoes or any other edible would it?

I use the liquid from my wormery diluted with water.

Only if you spray it on the tomatoes

Nettle/ nettle and borage/ borage and dandelion / in water - I've been using nettles for a long time, but added the others this year.

Also, this year, I used Two Sheds' idea of using the big milk carton and it works really well.

Comfrey, nettles and sheeps droppings. Put it in a sack and suspend in a barrel of water for a couple of weeks. Dilute one part barrel content to two parts water.

I logged on today to look for natural fertilisers and this post was sitting right at the top of the list, yay! I had to google comfrey as I had no idea what it was, but I am quite excited as I think I may have loads of it in my garden, if I can work out how to post a pic, can someone confirm whether it is or not for me please? Also, if it smells really bad, will it keep cats off?
