Use the Search Facility!

Hi all,

My bit of advice to all those looking to post a question, before you do, use the search facility at the top of the page first. This way you can view any relevant threads and avoid being repetitive. I've noticed some who post a lot end up having to repeat themselves as (understandably) people keep asking the same questions!

I was going to ask about how you can tell when gooseberries are ripe, but I searched before posting using the words gooseberry and ripe and found a thread that asked exactly the same question!

My thoughts exactly!! So many new posts asking the same questions, it's taking me ages to sort through. Check the forums, use the search button, you may find exactly the answer you need.

The forums been going so long now, that the majority of gardening questions have been answered at some point. If all new users used the search command before posting, the forum would become obsolete!

Don't think so Snadger. You can always add to an existing thread instead of creating a new one on the same subject.

You could.........but do we really want threads that run into numerous pages all the time?

For us newbies it would mean that if we did that all the time we could just search for the answer and never get into dialogue with you more experienced folks!! We wouldn't have to join in the forum at all.

I take Snadger's point about long pages on a subject.

But personally I get really frustrated having to type the same reply over and over again because people are posting new threads asking the same question, esp. about parsnips, greenfly, bindweed etc.

I use the search button constantly, as there is always a little gem of wisdom back in those archives.

I don't think the forum would be obsolete because there are plenty of questions or topics that can be posted without being repetitive.

There are useful tips and advice, recipes and techniques etc. It just that I think the more experienced posters are finding that there are certain topics that come up a lot! (like cats, aphid/greenfly, parsnips not growing...) Which also ends in some of these treads going totally off the point!

Yeah I hope there's a happy medium to be found. I guess we all think the question we're posting hasn't quite been answered previously and/or just want a little bit of personal clarification and support!
