First "official" plants bought

Hurray!

After reading and reading and reading, and then going outside and walking around and poking bits of the garden, I've actually managed to buy some stuff!

I went to the local farmers market near work and got some herbs and strawberries

Got parsley, sage and mint, and a couple of strawberries.

I plan to pot up the strawbs in a huge tub and get them to put runners out. I'm going to over winter them in the greenhouse I think.

Herbs are also going in their own pots, as we're not sure where the herb bed is going to be (and the mint is staying in a pot anyway!).

Will I need to put these in the greenhouse over winter also?

unsure about that shelly - but was wondering the same as I have some parsley and mint that are planted up and wondered whether I'd need to move them indoors when the frost hits!

Leave your strawberries outside to overwinter. They need a cold snap to make them fruit. You can however bring them into the greenhouse in February or March to bring the fruiting on quicker.

Even this far north I get better strawberries if I leave them outside. Unfortunately I have to grow all herbs, except chives and borage, inside, even mint struggles.

Shelley, I leave my mint outside. Its in a reasonably sheltered spot just next to the house. It dies off when the first frosts arrive and then starts again in spring. I've overwinterd Parsley in the greenhouse but it never really got going again. It was easier to plant fresh.

I grow sage outside - that dies down during the winter but grows up again with no problem in the spring. This year I've chopped some fresh sage and frozen it into ice-cubes so that I've got some to chuck in a casserole/ sauce during the winter (hope it works ok!!).

Your strawberries should be fine outside Shelley, they might look a bit scruffy & dead over winter but will perk up again in the spring. I leave parsley & mint outside over winter as well & they usually survive but you could always spilt them up & keep some indoors in pots to use when cooking in the winter.
