I've bought some good size containers from Lidl this week. Not quite as cheap as comparable sized containers from Wilko, but these are self-watering and they feel good and sturdy. i bought two large round planters and two extra-long window boxes - all for £4.99 each. I suspect people with their own transport could find better deals, but these seemed good for somewhere I could access on foot.

Would they really make much money on this? Seeds are cheap and growing is free but somebodys time in sorting that all out plus postage would mean there isn't much margin I'd have thought.

At this time of year, especially with the heating bills in this weather - it's better for business to off-load them cheaply before they need potting on. So as long as you have somewhere to grow them on, they are a good buy.

Aldi have Lathyrus latifolius (everlasting sweet pea) with their stocks of Clematis and other climbers for £1.69. I'm sure I read someone was after one of these last year.

Also some Asda stores have Senetti plants for £2, the local garden centre wanted £10 though the plant was a bit larger. The purple one is especially striking as the colour is so vibrant.
