  • Favourite tool/implement/device

Hi everyone! I was just wondering what everyones favourite tool/implement/deivce is that they use in their plots. I must admit I have two favourites - firstly a special type of fork that has three or four prongs at the bottom which you put on the ground and then it has a peddle which you press up and down and it works its way into the soil - brill for breaking up solid ground. Sorry, despite other Grapvine members comments, I still can't remember what its called.
Secondly, I purchased one of the little wooden devices that you can make your own pots out of newspaper - its FAB! Just wish I'd bought it earlier!
What are everyone elses favourites? dexterdog

My favorite is a two sided tool, it has a hoe on one side and a tool for making drills on the other.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I think probably my onion hoe as I use for all manners of digging and planting and I like the short handle (being short-ish myself and seem to generally be on my knees - when I'm gardening not all the time!).

Mine is a mattock similar to that which is used by the black woman overseas when they are clearing the ground for their crops! I can clear grass, dig holes or rake the tilth with it - brilliant!

OK call me weird but I'd be lost without my widger, I've found many uses for it other than transplanting seedlings! And it's a nice shiny stainless steel one.
