Hose connectors

Hello,

Can I ask about the connectors that you put on the ends of hosepipe and taps so they clip together?

Last year I replaced a collection of broken brittle plastic ones with brass ones, but they leak pretty badly. Iirc the plastic ones leaked a bit but these are much worse. Any tips to remedy?

Also, why when you buy a set, do you get one connector with a sort of non-return valve built in? Is it just so that water's held in the pipe so when you turn the tap on its quicker to come out the other end? Both my brass non-return connectors are not working now. I can shake them to hear the valve moving but they won't let water through.

Non return valves have a right and wrong way when you fit them.
Just turn them round.

Can you get an o ring washer that fits into the brass fitting to stop the leak?
