clear raised beds or open ground where possible , spread compost or well rotted manure on the surface of the soil.then add a layer of seaweed`(that gets washed up on the beach never cut seaweed from rocks etc as it takes over five years to recover)put a good layer on the soil .the seaweed will protect the nutrients from being leached from the soil.seaweed being dark absorbs heat from the sun .this will cause the soil to heat up a bit faster.the seaweed also insulated the soil from the worst of weather this will in turn make the worms more active.active worms will bring the layer of organic matter into their burrows.the seaweed will Root down quit quickly so in the spring whats left can easily being dug into the soil.
