  • Best freebie ever

Here's a good one for all you skip divers, recyclers, freecyclers and such:

Just out of curiosity... what the best freebie you've ever had? It could be something that a nice person has given to you that's been really useful, or possibly something you've found, or converted something into just what you needed.

Me: 3 chickens . The nice lady down the road had spare and they've been great layers for me for most of the summer! She's offering me a rooster too so I'm thinking of breeding a few chicks and raising them for meat.

So what about all you out there?

Hi Birdie Wife - you did well. So far, we rescued a water butt from a skip and a kind soul donated 10 strawberry plants

An 8' x 6' greenhouse from a neighbour. Given free, but I helped clear their garden for them.

I haven't yet, but it was a bargain I was going to use it to build a pergola at home & put a washing line under it so Mrs grief doesn't have to worry about it getting wet (all heart me) but she poo pooed that Odea so then I thought about another greenhouse but she treatened legal action..... divorce i think it was, so now I think I'l use it on the lottie to make a Coldframe & a bit of covered decking next to the new shed I'm going to build.

Come to think of it the shed cost me.....now let me think...there was...and..and of course! Which comes to a grand total of...er, nothing!

Scrounged the timber from a shed they were knocking down at work.
The double glazed plastic framed opening window was on a pile waiting for the scrapman.
The side window was buried in a heap at the back of my allotment and the other window was originally used to prop up my neighbours greenhouse. He said I could have it if I fixed his greenhouse.!
The bench was built out of a couple of pallets and the shelving is some MDF offcuts that someone threw into the skip at work.
My other neighbour gave me the nails and some thin rubber belting to use as roofing felt
                        Which just goes to show:-
                        * It pays to keep in with the neighbours!
When I get round to finishing the exterior (which has sweet peas growing up it, freebie with a mag I think!) I may even post a photo
It has 'evolved' from the original drawing to take advantage of freebies!

25 tomato plants already planted for us when we moved in to our new house. We've had lovely tomatoes all summer

They could have just left the greenhouse empty, but didn't!
