Getting Rid of Compost Flies

Every time I have seeds growing at home, I get bothered by those small little flies which must hatch from eggs laid in the compost.
This year, I heard or read somewhere that cinnamon would deter them so carried out an experiment, sowed one lot of seed and covered completely in a plastic bag with no cinnamon. 10 days later opened the bag and there they are - but trapped and going nowhere.
My other seeds were not in plastic bags and I sprinkled cinnamon on the surface of the compost - result - no compost flies.

You could water less ... they are attracted to soggy compost

I've watered mine less, compost quite dry on top - watering from bottom, but still have flies! Tried the cinnamon too, but the annoying things still keep flying about!

What do I do?!

sticky fly papers behind the pot, or change the compost with some you've done in the microwave

grow a butterwort on the window cill they are carnivourous and just hoover them up.
sundews are good too.

Kidnap a spider.
Between carnivourous plants and beasties, I really have my pot plants controlled nowadays !

going to give this a go as i grow exotic plants from seed and they require humidity and heat, hope it works xx
