I'm getting a little obsessed! My office has a staff canteen with fresh food prepared daily so I'm getting two black bags of veg peelings each day for compost. I'm now also getting those large catering sized tins when they make tomato sauce for plant pots. Now I've hit upon the idea of taking all our paper that's already shredded for compost also! I am now gearing up to sweet talkthe kitchen into separating out their egg shells and using the grinds from the coffee machine as snail deterrent! Anything else I can recycle from the office?!!

Stop wasting energy at the office and use it on the allotment/garden instead.

Water bottles as cloches ? If you can get the water cooler bottles then that would be a real feather in your cap - but fat chance, they are all recycled religiously ! (I once read a man's post in a forum that he lived next to the depot they end up at, he had all he wanted...the envy of others was painful to behold. )There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
Head-hunted member of the Nutter's Club - can I get my cranium back please ?

We have a water company up the road and they have to pay to disposed off so they love it when we turn up with our trailler. My phone has more Processing power than the Computers NASA used to fake the Moon Landings

well. i have started taking all the loo roll tubes which makes me look quite strange! and i'm fighting with another lottie work friend who's taking all the plastic milk cartons as weights for her fleece. sadly our water machine is one of those posh electric ones that give hot/cold/still/fizzy so no plastic bottle there. i totally agree about the filing cabinets, maybe i'll tell them we should try to be a paperless office!
don't have vending machine cups - our office is quite good eco wise and we all have mugs, yep all 150 of us. Capsid, i quite agree, spending time on the plot is infinitely better than sitting at a desk.

The other two are Freecycle where you can request things as well as see what is offered. And skips with the owners consent.
We recycle so much now that its hardly worth putting out the bin these days.My phone has more Processing power than the Computers NASA used to fake the Moon Landings

Now I've hit upon the idea of taking all our paper that's already shredded for compost also! By Maximillian
Just a thought Maximillian, and I am sure that other Grapes will advise one way or t'other, BUT - would you not have to be careful with the shreddings. What if it also contains NCR paper (or the modern equivalent!!)
Other Grapes - is it important or can ALL paper be used in the compost? I'd be interested in the answer as my OH won't let me put such paper in the compost bin because of the chemicals involved. . SanjoLast edited by Sanjo; 29-04-2009, 08:57 AM.
