  • Recommended TV Gardening Programmes

Has anyone got any favourite gardening programmes on Tv (Sky) that have a "vegetable" slot, or preferably, are all about vegetables? I'm miserable I know, but not, at this moment in time interested in flowers - just veg.
There are so many on Sky TV that Im not sure which programme covers what! Many thanks! DDL

UKTV Style gardens have been showing the Ornamental Kitchen Garden. The only other one is Heaven's Garden (I think)

I don't if it's just because I've learnt a lot but the t.v. doesn't seem to teach me much anymore.Dear old Geoff Hamilton always seemed to tell me something I didn't know or got me to ask questions of my self.I'd sooner read one of his books or G.Y.O. than watch some trendy who are clearly clever but don't hit the mark for me somehow.Titch was a good veggie grower and I'm sure Monty is too, hope the new River Cottage lives up to expectations and includes growing as well as his commercial venture.

I know what you mean Burnie.

Personally I think the best two presenters of gardeners world were Geoffrey Smith & Geoff Hamilton.

Geoff Smith did his from an allotment in Leed I think but he was very similar to Geoff Hamilton. They both had a real boyinsh enthusiasm for the subject & after you'd watched it you felt as though you wanted to go out & try it.

The one problem I have with GW these days is it's seem to be a sort of mini chelsea garden in some respects and it's mainly flowers & not much veg from what i've seen recently - I still watch it mind.

Another good DVD that used to be on SKY was the "Grow with Joe" series by Joe Maiden he did one on Veg & one on flowers I think.

I suppose we should really criticise too much as it is a pretty diverse subject 7 they are trying to appeal to everyone so you only get little bites of things rather than a good chunk.

I was thinking yesterday, maybe they should have a garden slot for a couple of hours like the saturday kitchen thing - but preferably at night not when everyone ids out gardening !!!

Other ones I like to watch are the 3 Victorian ones

                Victorian Kitchen Garden
                Victortian Flower Garden
                Victorian Kitchen

I wish they would repeat the Wartime Kitchen Garden as that was good from memory.

ITV West did a series of programmes on DVD called The Allotment as well (still available)

                  Hi DDL
I got the Allotment DVD for Christmas last year and thought it was excellent as I couldn't get the programmes up here. I also like Geoff Hamilton's Ornamental Kitchen Garden. Another one that has not been shown for ages was Monty and Sarah Don's Fork to Fork which was about growing veg and fruit and then cooking it (simply!).

Looking forward to new River Cottage, as again I have always found alot to learn on there.

                  Good luck!
