  • Repairing Wellies - any good ideas?

    Hey Everyone.

Not been on here for ages...

Got a huge problem with my wellies - I was sloshing around in the sea today with the dog - and noticed my feet getting wetter and wetter. When I got home I inspected my wellies and the rubber has cracked in a couple of places.

What's the best way to fix them? I'd hate to throw them out and get another pair - all for fixing and re-using in this household. So I'm posting this thread as I know someone out there will have a good idea.

    Thanks

    E

    Hi Eskymo
From your local dive shop you can get a product called AQUASURE this is used to repair wet suits and should work on your wellies.

You can also get Aquasure in fishing tackle shops .We fisherfolk use it to repair waders .Its about a fiver a tube .It keeps for ever if you store it in the fridge.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

        Brilliant!

Thanks for the tip - I'll have to look online as we don't have a Diving shop or a fish tackle shop in the local vicinity.

        Cheers

And here's me thinking a 50p puncture repair kit I got from Poundland on a half price sale would have done!

I was thinking about a puncture repair kit - but maybe not. Good to hear from you Esky.

Cheaper still-put your feet in 2 plastic bags before putting your wellies on!Only joking-think it might be a bit soggy!

I found a few folk on ebay selling the aquasure stuff, so I'll get it soon. I did think of bicycle repair kit, but didn't like the fact that I'd have big red patches all over my lovely blue wellies. The aquasure stuff sounds ideal as it obviously seels up any crack and sounds like it must be flexible to to allow for movement.

Plastic bags in the meantime are a fabulous idea - I hadn't thought of that!

I don't fancy walking a long the beach at this time of year without wellies on my feet - My toes would fall off from frostbite within minutes!

That is a good idea though - planting them up - I always intended to do that once I bought another pair, but I'm sure this pair has another few years to go before that happens.

good on yer esky. our washer has finally hit the dust after 12 years, the last year it got repaired every weekend and the last month its done one wash without breaking down. now we are using the drum for a brazier and giving the rest to somone on freecycle who will use the rest. (the door makes a good mini cloche too.)
where have you been by the way?

I've been right here all along - just been too busy to get on the forum and post, plus I've not done any gardening for months and so had no questions to ask the experts.

Been down to West Wemys today and found a huge great big plastic bottle with a handle and tap - the kind of square variety - perfect for my comfrey liquid feed to be decanted into.

I love getting stuff for free.
