This suggestion will no way be as thorough as the Water Wizard off ered by T&M as £2.99 for 1 or 3 for £5.98 - but its a devil of a lot cheaper.
With both recycling, water conservation and credit crunch in mind I have started to use 500ml plastic drinks bottles - preferably the ones with the 'sports' pull-up lids.
I've experimented overnight and the water does dispense into the containers - SLOWLY!
I've done some leaving the pull-up piece on, some with the pull-up piece off and some with pull-up off and the small plug of perforated plastic removed. The best design for delivery is the powerade bottle with pull-up on! Each to his/her own!
Plunge the bottle into the container up to the shoulders of the bottle. You may need to devise some kind of support if you use a larger bottle - but these ones rest nicely on the side of the container. May try one of those litre sized mixed bottles with the narrow nescks to get deeper into the soil.
It delivers a gentle blurbling every 5 seconds or so.
The other aspect that struck me was that whilst the delivery may not get to the bottom of your containers quite so well as the expensive alternative - water will be delivered at a slow and steady rate especially during the dry periods. No reason why you couldn't put the bottle tops on a larger bottle, if compatible. Also I have always been disappointed when watering that inevitably much of what I put on simply drains away from the container doing no-one any good and wasting water/feed.
Worth a try - even if you don't have access to the bottles (unlikely?) you could always ask a friend or neighbour for some?
