Dropped into Homebase today and they had Hinnonmaki Gooseberries (red and green), Loganberry, Blackcurrant, Blackberry and Redcurrant bushes for £2.99 each or £5. Picked up 6 and all looked very healthy.
Yeah our local Homebase were selling off all the fruit bushes (blackcurrants and whitecurrants) and strawbs, only the strawbs all had powery mildrew and the others seemed as though they had not seen daylight or water for a few weeks.
Shame as I would have been interested otherwise
These were like new stock, all boxed up and for sale inside the store on a rack. Like your store, they also had some desperate looking strawberry plants that looked
Thanks for this, OH has to call for dog food tonight on his way home and the pet store is near the local Homebase. I might send him a text (he never reads e-mails) and tell him to pop in for a look. I recently ordered 12 strawberry plants at a total cost of £8.99, a local garden centre is selling them for an unbelievable £2.99 EACH. Soft fruit really does seem to be one of those things where suppliers just make numbers up when deciding how much to charge.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
thanks for this Amanda, I made a detour today on my way to the physio and was glad I did! Got:
2 grape vines
2 gooseberry (one red, one green)
1 loganberry
3-4 other things (cant even remember what)
and 2 of the packaged ones you posted about
the vines were reduced from £10 to £3 - i'm sure all they need is a bit TLC!
so many thanks! Cost me £36 but think i 'saved' about £50!

Thanks for the tip Amanda. I popped into my local Homebase yesterday and all the £2.99ones had gone but I did buy a very healthy gooseberry for £4.99. Just waiting now for the rain to stop and the soil to dry out a bit before I can plant it up at the lottie!
