  • Summer Cooking

    Hi
I learned this the hard way but any other newbies out there might want to get a bit of kitchen preparation in now ready for the summer.
Working on the allotment in the growing season took up every minute of my time. I had rearranged my work hours to fit it all in but didn't calculate cooking time so found it a real stretch.
So what would help is to get some pastry and pizza dough, bread, burgers and other delights like quiches, biscuits, cakes etc made and in the freezer now to free up some time in the summer.
This year when I crawl home hot and tired after a day on the allotment I will appreciate having a little something salted away to eat with my home-grown.

That is a lesson we learned the hard way Sue when we first took on our plot. It is very much worthwhile doing that. We also cheat now and cook at the plot, we take some snorkers and pullan onion. Grand.

        Schnorkers! Good Oh!

Sausages SS, the above quote is from the classic film, 'The Cruel Sea'!

I'm guessing they've either a small gas stove, a barbeque or a good bonfire for cooking the sausages on!

We have both a barbeque and a two ring gas stove with grill Mrs D, toasted bacon sandwiches anybody, hot coffee. I dont know how we managed without one.

Mmm, dont tell Mr D about hot bacon sarnies on the plot PW, he'll want something similar himself!!

Actually, we do have a similar camping stove, just need to get a gas cannister for it, oh, and then somewhere secure and large enough to put it on the plot!

Now there's a good idea to get Mr DDL down to the lottie! Having said that, he knows I want to dig it all myself, I just need his help with fences, laying out of paths etc - but he's all for having a BBQ (its a man thing!) so I'll bear that in mind when I need his help! Our earliest BBQ has been in January - don't think we'll be doing that this year though! DDL

I thought of getting a gas ring in the polytunnel - just seems so right to cook everything right away. But OH said it was totally unnecessary given the 15 second walk to the house and a Rangemaster!

But have G&T stashed away ....... don't tell him!

Lol JA!! We dont have any booze stashed away on the plot, but have to say it was good at Yule to go and wassail the plot with some blackthorn gin in Mr D's hip flask, 5 of us wassailing away, definite fun!
