  • Help, is it safe to burn?

Help please, I sent the OH to the local timber yard to get some 'off-cuts' to chop up for sticks/kindling. We've had some before, but this time the stuff they came back with looks like fence post trimmings and looks to have been dipped as the outer is a different colur.

So I know nowadays it's safe in the garden and is usually water-soluble, BUT is it safe to use as sticks and burn it?

Well in the end I didn't fancy burning the stuff on the living room fire so got the OH to take it back - the bloke was grumpy but swopped it for about the only bag of non-treated off-cuts.

I think you're probably wise on that SBP

Burning treated timber, or painted timber should be treated as a big no no. It releases all sorts of chemical compounds into your immediate environment.

It can only be burnt safely at very very high temperatures in controlled conditions to burn off the nasties.

Yeah PW I read something similar when I googled (its not only LJ!!! ). I think the owner didn't want to pay to get rid, but wanted punters to buy the stuff. Anyway I wasn't very happy with the OH but am better now we've swopped the stuff.
