  • Cheap compost

    Hi
compost is now starting to be sold 2.50 for 20 litre bag in Tesco (last year it was on offer at 1!) does anyone know of anywhere with good offers for potting/seed compost?
    Thanks

How much peat does it contain, do you know?

Netto were doing 3 tomato growbags for 1. I'm using them as growbags, but no reason why you can't tip the compost out of them.

EDIT: That seems WAAAAY too cheap. Maybe it was 3 for 3.

As you are in devon try Trago Mills they are doing 3 X 70lt bags for 8, you will need to sieve it for seed sowing. Dont think it has any peat in it.

I get mine from Wickes. It works out at 4p/litre. Sometimes they do a special order which can reduce it even more. It's not peat free but it is good stuff.

Oh how I wish I wasn't so old......I get confused really easily.....................If it's seed compost you are after, Wilko's are doing a good deal.........think it was 25lts for around a 1.............for MP, I always get mine from B&Q 3 for 10..........Personnal choice.

B&Q MPC came out top in the Which? survey both for seeds (i was surprised!) and potting on. Think it is about 40% peat. Best peat free was New Horizon Growbag. Sorry cant remember prices - motherhood and then old age have addled my brain :-)

Which quote it as 3.49 for 33 litres.
                      Today's mistake is tomorrow's compost...

If you need a lot of it then Wickes are doing a good deal:

                            Hi

I've just been past my local poundstretcher and they're doing 20 litres for 89p.

I'm not great at arithmetic but I think this is slightly cheaper than the offer B & Q are doing which is 3 x 70l for a tenner.

I was on foot and had the dog otherwise I'd have picked up a few. (I wonder if I could train her to pull a sled).

they're also doing peat (not sure how environmentally friendly it is)

                            T

                              4.45p/l

So not bad really..is it peat free?

I've been busy collecting compost when it was on offer - cleared B&Q out of their growbag offer (4 x 33l for 5 - I think Nicos may have mentioned it in some thread - so that worked out at 3.78p/l) - as you can see from the attached picture
