Aldi Seeds

Hi everyone

Joined a few weeks ago and have just enjoyed logging on and finding things out. The forum is very informative and a lot of my questions have been answered.

The reason I have decided to post is that I have received a flyer from Aldi and on thursday they are selling seeds for 29p.

(Flower varieties: Lupin, Sweet Pea, Cornflower, Cosmos, Sunflower, French Marigold, Nasturtium, Morning Glory, Night Scented Stock
Vegetable varieties: Cress, Beetroot, Spring Onion, Runner Bean, Carrot, Tomato, Spinach Beet, Parsley, Radish, Lettuce)

Has anybody tried them before and are they a good investment or cheap and nasty??

I had some seeds from Aldi last year and had good results from them. (green sprouting broccoli, moneymaker toms)
Would definitely but them again.

I've had good results from Lidl seeds and at that price you've little to lose.

Found myself in Netto today and they've got a good selection of seeds at 19p a packet! At that price, I grabbed a dozen.

Not that I need any more seeds...

Will visit to the Lidl tomorrow and see whats on offer? Not sure if I will get to Netto though.

I've also tried them and they do work - Scorzonera and Roodnerf brussels . The only thing is sometimes the packets can be undescriptive to the actual variety.

Earthbabe went to Lidl today and bought even more seeds, good selection.

il cacciatore are you saying that the plants that you get don't resemble whats on the packet or is it the instructions?

No, I mean the ones that they had last year, some didn't state the exact variety on the packet. Don't get me wrong, most did.

The main reason these seeds are so cheap is that they contain less seeds per packet. But when you look at how many you get per packet from the major seed companies, how many of us need that amount? I've had good results from cheap seeds, though if you want a particular variety you probably will need to go to the major suppliers.

Does Lidl have a more extensive range of seeds than Aldi? Just wondering if it's worth the trip?

The Aldi flyer i received only showed a small selection (10). It would appear that Lidl had a slightly greater selection. By the way Aldi's seeds only appear from this Thursday.

am off down to Lidl tomorrow for an £8.99 workbench. then at the weekend our Aldi and In Stores are next to each other. can't wait.
