I got a few packs of seeds from lidl at the weekend. Most are 29p some are 49p. Seemed to have a reasonable selection.

I got gherkin/lettuce/chive 29p and dwarf French beans 49p. Seem to be quite packed full of seeds also.

Somewhere in another thread I'm sure there is the web site for lidl - perhaps there is one for aldi too that we could check out before visiting the stores? DDL

Just a word about seed quantities in the Aldi packs of seeds...I couldn't see anywhere on the pack how many seeds are in the pack - but that's ok as RL has said, you tend to get zillions too many anyway.

There's an exception though - I could only feel THREE beans in the runner beans packs!

          lidl is: www.lidl.co.uk
          Aldi: www.aldi.co.uk

Both let you sign up for weekly newsletters detailing the special offers. Just bought some pots and propagator from Aldi, on special from today till Thursday. Off on Thursday for some fruit trees £3.99 I think. Spending way too much money, what the hell.

Hello everyone, just an update on seeds from the "value" supermarkets. A couple of years ago I was made redundant and I could not justify my usual spend on the garden which usually is around twenty five pounds from people like Thomson & Morgan, Suttons etc. As I then had lots of time on my hands I needed to keep myself busy. Netto had an offer of five packets of seeds for one pound, Lidl were selling packets for twenty nine pence. I probably spent around five pounds and to say the results were good is an understatement. The seeds from Lidl tend to be basic staple varieties nothing too fancy or difficult to grow. The best results I had were Petunias, Antirrhinums,Sweet peas and Lobelia Crystal Palace. Some people say the quantities of seed are less than from the established seed merchants but I have not found this, I filled three seed trays with Lobelia (probably a thousand seeds in one packet) Gave all my friends free seeds and had a spectacular display myself! It goes to show that you dont have to spend a fortune to enjoy your hobby and I would not hesitate to recommend trying seeds from these supermarkets.
            Happy growing

my local aldi had plenty of flower seeds but the only veg they had was mini gem lettuce
they've sprouted absolutely fine, loads of seeds left in the packet
i'll be going back this week to see if they have any other veggy seeds in yet

i bought aldi little gem and they are great, sprouting already, they are outside in a raised bed (under a cloche made from plastic - got it cheap in B&Q), i also got runner beans and in the packet i have planted them all in the greenhouse and hoping for the best, but at that price and it being my first year, i am not too concerned.

I also bought their small pots in a carrier and their grow bags, they are also offering a wheelbarrow plastic thing for £12 which i thought was good and lots of bird seed

I LOVE ALDI - great bargains to be had!!
