Pallet Compost Bin

I've just made my first compost bin from pallets - it's under a tree in a lot of shade

I saw something on the net a while back saying to line the insides of the compost bin with black plastic (old compost sacks etc) to keep the heat in, and other instructions saying the compost needs air, so don't line it

Should it be lined or not??

I will be making more pallet compost bins for the allotment where they will be in full sun. Do I line them or not??

I line the bin but if the slats are close together you will not need it and make sure you cover well it helps keep the heat in it cooks quicker that way .
I have 6 bins side by side from one side of the plot to the other each bin is 52 inches wide 42 inches back and 42 inches deep 4 are full and cooking as we speak 2 others are half full if you cover and put some weight on the top the compost comes out damp and incorporates into the soil better when hit by the Rotovater so good look and you will not need to move the compost until it is ready....jacob

mine are made from pallets too - i lined them partly (after this picture was taken) but the sides are now open and the lining is on the backs only- i have black plastic on top....picture attached of when they were first built - they are now spilling over....
