Organising your Seeds

I've got one of those plastic expanding files with 12 pockets, marked with the months. (I've got 3 pockets for March and none for Nov & Dec). When I buy a new packet of seeds I slot it into the relevant month for sowing. If I'm super-organised I'll write a couple of labels ready and pop them in too. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

similar thing mine is a stationary plastic box with a lid and monthly dividers in and when i do successional planting just move the pkt back a month its the most organised thing i do

Mine are in large brown envelopes by "family" or "planting group" with a sheet inside which tells me what I can start planting when. I tried working by month last year but March and April were overloaded and I ended up focusing on only a few things rather than across the board.

I'll have to see if this works better.

I use a similar system to Earthbabe except that I use those zip lock bags. Have been thinking about putting a box together with moveable dividers for months but hadn't been able to find one the right size. Tried heavy hints to OH and have pretty much decided that if I want something that's right then I'll have to make it myself.

I too use the months system. Moving the packets back for successional sowing. My March and April are extremely full!
I am using an empty biscuit box from Xmas.
Made the dividers with envelopes and just stuck the flap up to write the month on.

Two Sheds, you're just full of good ideas ! Are you like me and lay awake at night dreaming them all up? I find it helps to pass the time whilst I'm listening to 'himself' snoring.....

I got given a long, 'lidded' and handled Decorative box for small garden handtools etc. one Christmas. It's as wide as an average seed packet, and well long enough to store all the seed packets I can lay my green-fingered little mitts on, and it's FULL to bursting right now ! I made little Month Dividers out of Card, and I find this system works brilliantly for me, as I'm able to thumb through the contents, reminding myself of what's to be sown.

I've also recently started making up monthly cards at the beginning of each monthly section to remind me of other garden-related jobs for that month like:
Feed & Mulch Asparagus Bed
Start Chitting Seed Potatoes
Prune Wisteria
Prune Fruit Bushes
etc.

I wrote all my lables in a lovely black marker pen name, type, date the lot..then put them in the propogator. Next day the condensation had wiped it all off......Now I have pot luck.

Thanks Wellie. When I save my own seed, I make up several little packets instead of one big one...and put each in a diff. timeslot for successional sowing.

I sow every two weeks up until June for Parsnips and most other root crops.
I also use the idea Two Sheds has and have a card index system to record which varieties grow well. since taking on my new plot I ask all the plotters which varieties grow best.

I am very much impressed with Two sheds Swedes, something I have never been able to grow successfully

!!! My Swede, you mean! I sowed lots, but only one grew to be edible, and it was a monster. (Nearly as big as my Willow Aphids)
