  • Aldi Fruit Trees

In Leicester our Aldi store will again be selling fruit trees from Thursday for £3.99.

i am always a bit suspicious of such things but bought some last year and thay have been excellent. I have some cordoned, some espalliered and some planted as a mini orchard.

Here is the blurb from the Aldi Website.

Ready for planting, these established fruit trees will bear fruit in just two years. Can there be a more tasteful way to brighten up a garden?

    Height: minimum 1.2m
    Choose from:

    Cherry,
    Pear,
    Plum,
    Dessert Apple,
    Cooking Apple,
    Apricot,
    Nectarine
Each comes with a generous mix of moist peat
    Full planting/growing instructions included

Bought fruit trees from them about three or four years ago. The apples were ok but the plum was excellent. I would totally recommend them.

            Aldi offers thurs 1st march

Just received a new leaflet from them and they will be having bulbs and rose bushes and things in from then.

More importantly they will have a range of Disney (WTP) statues and seepers and other garden paraphenalia from that date. They looked very pretty and might be a hit with some of our smaller gardeners. Started at about £1.99 I think.

I bought a few apple trees from Aldi yesterday, with the idea of renovating a boundary fence between our garden and the churchyard by using the trees as esapliers. In theory, this would look so much nicer than the scrubby elder bushes and ivy that is currently there (some of which fell over onto some graves in the high winds hence the reason for replacing it.) Anyway, how did you go about turning Aldi's trees into espaliers PW? My books on the subject start with a shorter trunked tree so getting the side branches at the right level for the wires looks easier....? The branches on these trees (which are very sturdy and well grown I might add) are much higher up.

Does anyone know if these trees could be grown in patio pots. It doesn't say what roostock they are and wondering how well they will fare in a large pot. Anyone planted any in pots from previous years,
                      Thanks
