Blueberries

Hi guys, you may already know this so forgive me if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs! I live in an area with very hard water and, being new to veg growing don't yet have a rainwater collection system more sophisticated than the odd bucket and bowl! However, I wanted to grow blueberries and bought a couple of plants 2 years ago which produced virtually nothing and promptly died this year!!! So off to Dobbies I went, bought a new one (self fertile) and did a bit more research. If you run out of rainwater to give to your fussy blueberries add a bit of vinegar to tap water and that will do the trick!!! It really works...my blueberry is looking fabulously healthy and only time will tell whether the fruits will taste like fish 'n chips

I've grown blueberries for a number of years now, always in a pot and almost always with tap water (hard area) - they have produced really well (must just have been lucky) - it'll be interesting to see what happens when I give them a drop of balsamic

i've been using coffee grounds and dregs of tea to hopefully raise the acidity level of the water going through them!

There's other weak acids that will do the same job. For example, if you are into wine making, then you probably have a big tub of citric acid crystals stored away somewhere. Ideally, you should carry out PH tests to avoid guesswork with some litmus paper, or, even red cabbage solution.
