Thanks for all the advice so far! My wormery is also CanOWorms, Wiggly Wigglers (what happened to the r's?). I'm keeping it indoors in my office aka an ex storeroom with no windows in a warm building, so if anything they're getting too hot. Diet so far has been mainly tea, potatoes, a few salad leaves and some eggshells. (Plus shredded paper and old eggboxes)

I was a bit worried about tea being acid though it is definitely mentioned in the OK list. I also have quite a few old potatoes which I sliced completely with a potato peeler but on reflection this forms a wet mat so I might finely chop next time.

Very little smell except after inspections. A couple of squirts of airfreshener does the trick.

I keepmine in the shed all year round. The stock seem to like things they can get into like marrows, squashes etc. I just cut them in half and lob them in. Perhaps the hmidity is just right for them because in a few weeks the stuff it just worms in a skin.

Can of worms should or shouldn't I

Just watched Richard and Judy, they had a can of worms on, looks good beter than taking all my scraps to the allotment to put in the compost. (Makes the car stink) Is the compost any good from the wormery and how much scraps can they cope with?

        Thanks

It's not really compost you get out the wormery, it's simply worm casts which I either mix with normal compost to use for pots etc (too strong if not mixed) or use as a top dressing / dig into the garden. It's lovely crumbly stuff. You can also dilute the worm juice that comes out the bottom and use it as plant food.

Re how much they can take, there's two of us and during summer I put pretty much all our veg waste in now it's up to speed (start slow though) which is fine so long as you also add plenty of shredded paper etc otherwise it gets too wet. Don't put too many acidic stuff in eg citrus fruit, onion peel etc as it'll encourage fruit flies but they're pretty easy and as you say, very handy by the back door. Do note that if they do shut down a bit over winter so I've put mine in the greenhouse to keep it moving but even so it can't cope with all our scraps at this time of year.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
