Does anyone else use tire planters? I grow Jerusalem Artichoke in mine, to prevent them invading, underplanted with flowers

Good for Potatoes and I suppose I could also use them for mint and Hoss Radish.

Don't use them myself as I have a plentiful supply of big tubs that held sheep and cattle mineral licks, but there was a thread on this last year aimed specifically at growing tatties in tyres. Maybe some of the grapes out there tried it, dunno. Idea was to throw on another tyre each time you wanted to earth up.Rat

If you used the tyre system you could solve the topdressing by adding another tyre when the level got too high (if it did). Asparagus as far as I know doesn't spread sideways (suckering) so no real need to contain it as you would mint.
