I didn't have a problem with germinating, got 8 out of 10 to germinate, and yes they are minute, but they can go out in the cold greenhouse and they soon size up and you will get fruit from them the same year, unbelievable but true. I sowed Temptation and had fruit from july to first frosts last year. It didn't seem possible given the length of time they took to get their first microscopic true leaves. I have now got lots of strawberry plants but owing to the fact I can't draw a straight line to save my life ended up with my strawberry bed one foot wider at one end so had to get the other end even and that gives me a bit more room for a few more plants.
I know should have used a measuring line....
    best wishes

      Wellie
Very relieved am forgiven but will now have to ask what a chuck key is and what do you do with it.
Having run out of space in my greenhouse had to get some new aluminium shelves to put up and have GOT TO DRILL HOLES IN THEM. hopefully greenhouse will still be standing tomorrow night and I won't have been rushed to A & E
and I thought having an allotment was all digging and weeding...
      best wishes

Oh Sue ! I missed that post on the chuck key! Wait till I get ahold of The Trouser bloke wot deletes posts I've not read. I tell you, it's war now.....!

Anyhow. Never, I repeat, Never, lose the chuck key Sue. It is the only thing between you, the drill and success. It's the cog-shaped key that allows you to change from one drill-bit to another, and if you don't understand that girlie, just put the drill back into it's box and yell for help (!) Kidding, obviously!
It's taken me all evening to find this thread again (you see? some people don't 'DO' tools - I don't 'DO' computers!) and the reason I tried so hard to find this thread again, is to prove that sometimes, just sometimes, I'll keep my word....
So, if you'd all like now to check out my blog, you'll see that 'Sheila's Workshop' saw it's first project completed this morning. I did the table-top 'lower level' and then when I was busy building raised beds elsewhere in the Potager, Trousers built the upper Strawb level for me.

So, Wimbledon, here we come !
And that cost WOT exactly? Old Table Legs, Gravel Boards, Old redundant door, bit of sticky-back-plastic, well-rotted cow poo, compost, growmore, screws, plants.... and a bloke to take the photo!
(I was tempted to put a title: Does my Bum Look Big in this? and then decided that I'd rather not have the answer thank you very much!)

I hope you find our efforts inspiring enough to make one for yourselves....

Wellie, Love the strawb beds; I wish I could construct stuff. I think its the maths that fails me.
PS. I don't think you'll need netting on them...strawberry thieves (blackbirds) are ground feeders...

Thanks Two Sheds, and let's hope so, regarding the blackbirds, but I've got netting in the garage if they have a mind to prove you wrong...
I want to make a Beehive Composter at some stage too, ambitious ain't I?!

Wellie - just had a look at your beautiful garden via your link. Its lovely! You have obviously both put a lot of hard work into getting it so nice - it does justice to the beautiful part of the country you live in. Now I know you have a webpage shall keep popping in from time to time! Bernie aka Dexterdog
