what to do with spent compost

this is my first year of growing in pots but i have alot of pots meaning alot of compost and i would like a way to store it not in the pots dont want to throw it away for a number of reasons
1. cost
2. been told it can be used again if mixed with new
3. carrots can grow in it as they like poor quality soil
4.help to fill oversized pots

id like something practical with a base at a low cost had thought about a wheelie bin or a barrel or two something like thing any suggestions please tell me where you could get such a thing low cost

What about the bags you originally bought the compost in? I always save mine.

so: you have old MPC that you want to reuse next year?
And you want to know how to store it?
Like Rusty says, keep it in your old bags, or in the containers it is in presently.

Next year, mix it in with new

Hi Teengrower, Maybe you could put it in double black sacks, they're cheap and will do the job for you so long as you're careful not to put a hole in them.
I store my spent compost in refuse sacks and it works for me.

You could always bung it on the compost heap.

I tip mine in the raised beds or in the flower beds.
Or I re-use it at the bottom of large pots after the crocks layer

i know what im going to do with spent compost just dont know how to store it until such times threw out the compost bags and would like something to keep it all in one place as opposed to in the pots as the pots block my oil tank so would need moved before winter oil deliveries

Garden refuse bags (green ones) - can be bought from most supermarkets.

i use trugs which have either got a hole or the handles have snapped
like these Tub Trug PINK: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools didnt pay that price for them though, also dont use trugs as much in the winter as not weeding as much

I stick it in old compost sacks, or black bin liners (thick ones) out of the way if I'm not using it.

If you wanted to buy those trugs Hans Mum is on about, if you have a local 'Home Bargains' they do them in there for ~£2 i think. Lovely bright colours like that one too

i have put some into a tub trug one of the big ones but i would need several more to store all my spent compost also just out of curiosity how did you ever put a hole in one or break the handles ive carry mine full of concrete, stones, topsoil,water everything and when i give them a clean with some tesco biologial washinng liquid they come up like new it a waste to use exoensice cleaners on them

ask my OH how he snaps the handles cause i never have either the holes i put in purposely for drainage & i do have several all over the plot for lots of different jobs

Some of the cheaper ones do break easier especially if ex lottie partners drag them full by a single handle and also in cold weather they can be more fragile.

i've only ever had rhino flexi tubes i believe these are supposed to be the strongest ones available there both uv and frost stabilised does anyone know where i could get some of these cheap preferbly 50 litres they where in asda for £3 each a while back but i didnt get any

not seen them cheaper than £3 at Asda which is when i got some more & it's wrong time of year cause they'll be putting the C******mas stuff out now
