You could try your local council for cheap dalek compost bins and store the used compost in that. Or a cheap dustbin. I separate my spent potato and tomato compost so that I can use it on something different next year and I use an old compost bin and it works very well.

If you wanted to buy those trugs Hans Mum is on about, if you have a local 'Home Bargains' they do them in there for ~£2 i think. Lovely bright colours like that one too

We just use rubble sacks or old compost bags; wouldn't spend any additional money on buying something to put compost in......
If you half fill one, fold the top over the side, and roll the bag over so that the top is folded underneath the sack; they stack nicely and don't break your back when lifting.

Just remembered that I also use oldish 'bags for life' for transporting home made compost from home to lottie; and last year ended up leaving them in the bags for quite a while; the bags lasted ages sat there all winter whilst we cleared and prepped beds; so you could use those whilst waiting for cheap tub trugs to come along.
Don't forget that the cheaper tub trugs aren't as flexible so can crack - esp if left out over the winter.....
