This is how we collect rain water,
one barrel linked to another,it uses less pipping between each one, and, where you have a longer pipe,it can be cut,and another barrel connected into the chain easier,we have them spread down the sides of both plots, the grow barn has two slopes on it,so the 1 side that only has 1 barrel, has a pipe going accross the back of it,just under the window, thus feeding into the main system, the other plot comes from the potting shed/store,whilst the lottie shed/canteen,has a system of it's own,at the back, when it's got plenty in the 4 x 45gall, drums,it gets used to water what ever needs to be done,DH has set all this up,even to the old caravan pump, sits on a small inner tube,so it floats on the water, conected to a battery, had a count up the other day,we got 20 smaller blue barralls, and 5x45 galls,ALL FULL WITH WATER,and more to go as an when it rains, the smaller one's also support lids, some with clips to hold them on,when water preasure pushes them of,
The best thing is,both barrels and pipe cost nothing, they all scrounged from knocking factory doors, the barrals have to be jet washed out,no hardship to that,
,it all meant, this year we did not use the tap, only for the odd kettle
