How do I germinate Acorns?

How do I go about germinating Acorns? I have not got a clue Also would you germinate hazel nuts in the same way?

I find hundreds just growing wild...my top tip would be to shove them in an area of ground and see what happens!!

Put them in some soil now and they'll germinate in the spring.

Or put them in pots, keep them damp and outside in the cool.

For the hazel nuts. Give them to a squirrel. They will bury them all over your garden, in the grass, in every pot, everywhere. By next Spring you will have loads of little hazel plants everywhere. At least that's what happened at my last house, from the Hazel tree over the fence.

Many seeds require a long period of cold to trigger germination - this prevents the seeds germinating until the following spring in a natural environment, so prevents tender seedlings emerging during winter and being killed or damaged by frosts.
Let the seeds endure a natural winter, or you could put them in your fridge for a couple of months and then potting-out the seeds in a window, or you could try putting the seeds in your fridge for a week, then move them to your freezer for a week, then back to the fridge for a week, then put them into pots in your house window and they'll probably germinate - but remember than indoor-raised plants are easily damaged by frost, so must not be moved outside until May-June when frosts have passed.
