Well, that's strange - I like him on the Radio, but I have to say, on TV, he makes me cringe! Sorry Nigel! Will look out for the books though. Can never have too many books!

I adore Mr Slater His writing is awesome and I think he comes across so well. A clever, thoughtful and gentle man.

That said, as mentioned, I don't feel that Nigel ever seems 100% comfortable on TV (I think he said as much once in an interview) and if you have read Toast and / or seen the recent TV adaption the reasons for this are there.

I am going to read toast again this month having seen the BBC adaption (which I very much enjoyed, esp HBC's portrayal of Mrs Potter and Stott's turn as Mr Slater)

I think that's what I don't like - he doesn't seem comfortable. Having said that, I have only watched him half a dozen times.

I too love Nigel S - and really enjoyed Toast on the Telly. I get his TV persona and like the way he presents in a thoughtful and informative way - he doesn't gush or do over-the-top and I quite like the fact that he hasn't gone the route of being a sillyebrity shef and endorsing every gadget or fad going.

I want another Nigel book so will have a look on amazon for the ones you've mentioned - thanks for that.

Tried three of last Monday's recipes this week and apart from using a few too many JAs, they were all superb. We don't eat red meat so substituted sliced chicken breast for the beef in the hangover beef recipe. Today it's the moule and cider, off out to buy the moule shortly which are taken a couple of hours away from us on the coast
