to help ensure my seeds germinate, becuase i've had lots of failures in the past i, use a seed sprouter, as you would for alfafa etc. for eating. When the seeds have a root and maybe a hint of green i carefully tweezer them into pots of soil the appropriate size and treat them as if they'd just spruted in the soil. This works for flower seeds too, and the bigger the seed the better. broad beans are brilliant and it means you can catcth them just at the right time for potting, watching out for moulds and discard any weak seeds or failure to sprout seeds

hi sorry to have taken so long to reply, been on hols. I dont even know of anyone else doing this, but it seemed logical to me that if alfafa sprouted, to eat, then other live seeds might do , and they did.
the said sprouter is a four tier plastic affair. It has a lid and water drainage catcher on the base. You spread your chosen seeds in one of the layers and water daily with a pint of tap water., throwing the old drained water away each day. they are available from health food shops. you can also get a cheaper version like a screw top jar, but i think seeds may struggle for space and it could be difficult to untangle them to pot up.Last edited by plot 11 pam; 07-04-2006, 09:54 AM.Retirement is when you stop living at work and start working at living
