Have just got my 330L compost bin and I'm keen to get started.... The accompanying leaflet said not to put pet waste/litter in there.
Can understand not putting in fullers earth but was going to put the soiled hay from my house rabbit in there. Is that a no no too? Logic tells me no but my logic has not always been right!!

    Any help much appreciated

I would have no worries about putting rabbit hutch material into my compost bin. DEFRA would probably have something to say but that's their job!!!

I read something recently about what DEFRA have to say about manure which would mean that every gardening book would need rewriting.

Its all down to the digestive system of the animal and what they eat.

Scats...that's the stuff that comes out of you and me and Cats, Dogs...is out because it still has nasties in it.

Manure... Horses/ Cows are ok cos they only eat grass and althought they have 7 stomachs it is not porperly digested and is basiclay still grass.

Droppings Goats/Sheep/ rabbits/ hampsters all ok.

also fine to put in urine soaked newspaper (presumably from kittens and puppies) and the bedding/sawdust from vegetarian animals. Also pet hair as I understand it. My cats have been getting thoroughly groomed since I found that out, they're nearly bald now!!!

Now I have taken to using a wheat based cat litter, surely the non-solid waste can go in the compost bin?
I have also got a little test area under my hedge where I'm using it as mulch, this seems to work so am going to use it for my flower beds to be on the safe side won't put it on fruit or veg.
