we give seeds to our nephews every easter instead of chocolate, big hits are tumbling toms, pumpkins, sunflowers,(when they seed you can show them how to get the little seed out of the case and eat them) nastrums,(they like showing off to their friends that they can eat flowers)
they have a mini gardeing bag and tools to play with when they visit.
loads of fun, also digging for treasure is a good way to keep them intrested in digging their bit of ground.

    Walk lightly on the earth
    take only what you need
    give all you can
and your produce will be bountifull

Hi everyone! Thanks for the advice. I've ended up (well, for the moment! - there is always tomorrow morning!) deciding on cress that ella can grow inside, a flower mixture she can grow outside, tumbling tomato seeds and sunflower seeds as well. (I didn't want to swamp the poor child!). She can always come and help Auntie Bernie whenever she wants. Bernie aka Dexterdog

I know am a bit late, how about a wigwam? i.e. runner beans, and then have a little extra gap between two bamboo canes for an entrance.

Thanks MV! Ella is excited that her onions are growing - she has eaten some of her cress and is eagerly waiting for her sunflower seeds to grow. Bless! Hopefully she'll grow up with green fingers!
