  • Free Pallets...?

I know you'll most likely say 'you get them from builder's merchants' etc, but.....my local merchants won't give them away! Do you know where else I can get them? I've looked on Freecycle and Gumtree to no avail.

I'm looking to build 2 or 3 new compost bins. The old ones are rotten and a complete mess.

If not, can you suggest a different kind of material in which to build the traditional 4 sided compost bins? Free, if possible!

I got some from freecycle and others from my local ASDA who often leave some of the ones they can't return outside the warehouse gate for people to take.

At the back of wickes/b&q etc - just ask as they take up space and it's only the blue ones that have to go back.....

Keep an eye out for skips and builders vans... it usually means free pallets.

Have a look in the yellow pages for pallet suppliers. I called my local one and asked if I could have some of the slightly bust ones for an allotment. I was told to come down and help myself, they had hundreds! All for nothing. They just burn them if they aren't sellable.

I have a wood burner so I am always looking round for pallets, as has been said local builders merchants are highly likely to have a pile of ones not wanted, just dont take the painted ones.
Just have a think where will take deliveries near you and there are bound to be pallets there.

They come in handy for all sorts, I always have a few lying round "just in case" :-)

I got mine from Bagshot Lea Garden centre, they had free ones so maybe ask at your local garden centre.

Hi Ouya, try the yellow pages for paviours, most of their pallets are a one way journey type and are easy to flat pack, see youtube (wrecking bar mk 2), cheers Dave NE
