Mother's day present arrived this morning, a 3ft tall olive tree clipped into a ball. Will it grow outside or should I keep it in a pot in the gh?

Greenhouse in a pot for now. You can put it out later but I always overwinter them. They are a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern tree - our climate sadly does not match. Mine are currently wrapped in fleece too.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Mine has been outside all winter, I tend to put it in the greenhouse if we have a load of snow but we've hardly had any this winter and it an cope perfectly well with frosts. That said, your's might well be have been in a warm environment so I'd harden it off a bit first so as not to shock it. I believe they need a certain amount of cold to fruit OK.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Mine lives outside in a pot, but I do bring it to a sunny spot against the house for the winter and must confess that many of its wee leaves are a tad brown. So for safetly, perhaps the greenhouse over winter?If the river hasn't reached the top of your step, DON'T PANIC!Comment

I had an olive tree which almost died when I moved it , perked up and now is a victim of the incredibly cold winter we had where it dipped to minus 17 degrees at night and didnt get above freezing during the day for over a week. I'm in SW France.
If I were you I would have it outside during the summer but bring it inside in the winter.I'm not risking another.Comment
