    [QUOTE=Two_Sheds;1111945]

    We all have different moral compasses. Yours is that you've decided that taking fruit from garden centres is OK.

    You don't know me yet you claim to know what my morals are and what decisions I've made? Please re-read the thread and you will see I have not decided that taking fruit from a garden centre is ok, I did not take anything, I did however buy things from the garden centre and the farm shop outside, including a chilli! I did say that if I saw someone taking a fruit off a plant then it wouldn't bother me, that is their decision to do so.

    This is a forum where everyone is entitled to their own opinions and people shouldn't be jumped on when their thoughts differ to your own. It's easy enough to contribute your comments in a pleasant and friendly manner without the need to be rude. My original post was innocent enough and I think most people understood that.

      I used to scrump apples when I was a kid....we got caught a few times but we were only picking windfalls and we were never prosecuted even though it was on private property.

      Nowadays if you nick the plant then you are stealing, if you nick the fruit/seed of the plant thats fallen, then I think it's debatable......

        Since you opened the thread for people's opinions moopmoop, I would think you were asking for those who disagree as well as those who agree.
        I generally keep my 'philosophical'questions to my blog. That way I can approve or not approve any comments. If you open it up for discussion on an open forum, then you get everyone's views, and some of them are more blunt than others. But that's discussion. Abrupt/blunt/or otherwise.

          Sorry, I thought you were opening a discussion. I didn't realise you were stating facts and that differing opinions weren't welcome. My mistake.

          Don't look for offence where none was intended: other people have stated the same opinions as I put forth, but you aren't "jumping" on them ?

          You are very close to trolling: you created a potentially controversial thread deliberately to stir things up: "don't have a go at me, I'm only asking"

            Now then, now then...

            I can see your point TS, but you did say the moral compass thing with quite some conviction, despite the OP saying clearly that she hadn't done that. I might well have taken offence at that too.

            I suspect that this debate has run its course now,

                Yes and I respect people's opinions on whether they think it's ok to take fruit either off the plant or off the floor, whether that be in a garden centre or someone esles garden, which is what my original post was about.

                I don't appreciate it that someone has taken it upon theirself to claim to know what my morals are and state that I've decided it's ok to steal.

                  Yes well I think we should stop the thread too, I thought were were all adults and were able to offer our opinons without being blatantly rude, everyone else gave their opinions without seeking to cause offence. The reason why I started with don't have a go at me is because you always find the odd one who blows everything out of proportion and goes out of their way to be unpleasant. With regards to trolling and deliberately stirring things up? I'm lost for words, I come on here to seek gardening advice and ask the odd question, unfortunately I don't come on here to be bullied so I think my time on this forum has run it's course too. If you've went out of your way to upset me well done, mission accomplished.

                      When I said 'I think this debate has run its course', that was a polite way of saying 'please don't continue arguing'. Obviously I should have closed the thread at that point
