yellow grass

hi all,
OK i have a bitch (female dog) and as you may or may not know they will burn the grass. so having googled everything about this problem i decided to sort it myself.
if you catch the said animal doing a wiz then pour water over the grass where the dog did her bit..(dont pour it over the dog while this would work she would only go in doors and do it there) so to the parts that are already yellow put grass seed down and cover with compost. yes it will look unsightly for a time but the new grass does grow threw and all looks fine.. i hope this helps someone out there

I have been told that male dog wee is as bad. However, bitches get the blame because they do theirs all in one go (ah, the relief) whereas the males go around marking territory with theirs and only do a smidgin at each place, so you don't notice the toxic effect.

Somebody last year recommended something called "Rocks" which you put in the dogs water bowl and it stopped the problem. Thanfully our Aimee doesn't seem to be much of a problem in this regard

I've got a couple of yellow patches and I've been blaming the cat. Is this right? I'll try the compost/seed tip....thanks.

Boy dogs don't make the grass yellow at all (ours wees in one place and we've no yellow patches)

It's the hormones in bitch-wee that yellow the grass (may also apply to cats)

You can get sprays from pet shops that neutralise the hormones, but generally I just keep a watering can handy and dilute the patch as any visiting female dog does anything.
