  • Sharpening secateurs

Being in a 'fix-it' frame of mind, I decided that these old rusty secateurs needed a bit of a sharpen and spruce up! Enter the carving knife steel and the tin of WD 40.

It was so easy to get a new shiny edge on the secateurs, following the original angle of each blade. A squirt of WD 40 and the blades are much less rusty. And they cut like a dream now!

Now I wonder if this steel will work on my small hand sickle?

Tried sharpening the hand sickle and took it down to the allotment to tackle a patch of very long grass. Not up to the job at all. Judging by the nicks in the blade my OH found it a frustrating tool to use as well

Now I am going to try sharpening the shears
