Advice please!

I have recently had a MASSIVE conifer removed from a corner of my garden - it had become a bit of a liability! (I had a copper beech put in to replace it.) Thing is, the ground in that area is completely dry and undernourished. Any suggestions of how to improve the quality of the soil - on a virtually non-existent budget! - would be very welcome. Thanks in advance

Keep the new tree from drying out, make sure that it is well staked to guard against windrock in the late spring when it settles down and comes into leaf, feed it with a little tomato fertiliser.
copper beech don't like wet feet anyway, and they do tend to pout for a while, but once they get under way they do
spread their branches wide, maybe not an ideal choice for a corner

Hi, and thank you.

As I don't like the weeds that come with the manure I'll just keep my new tree well watered and feed it later on as suggested.

Might not be everyone's choice, but I'm a softie, and I planted it in memory of a huge, beautiful copper that was chopped down last year in a neighbouring garden.......
