  • Copper wire balls

I was reading a novel based on Japanese gardening and found this. Copper wire made onto balls and put in ponds stops the growth of algae. Might give it a try.
Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet

Presumably this is not a good idea if you have fish?
Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling

Aquatic life will die if the desolved copper in water exceeds 0.015ppm. I wouldn't recommend this approach
