  • First snow of April here - opened door to find a snowstorm blowing outside - dog danced round on a penny to show he had in fact gone out and then ran straight back in again lol - haven't even checked on cloches yet - I obviously need to get more fixed undercover garden stuff when pennies allow - roll eyes, don't even want to think about stuff sowed straight into the ground - most of it bulbs and veg which should be alright, but don't want to think about sweet peas.

Is this a belated April Fool, Mother Nature? If so don't think I'm exactly laughing along - proper Spring and then Proper Summer next please - behave like a lady!

        • Yesterday we had: rain, sun, hail, rain, sun, hail, thunder, lots of hail, rain.. all from 8am to 4pm..

Good thing the only gardening I am doing just now is either in the greenhouse or resowing parts of the lawn where I have removed the moss.

            • I thought this dull and grey weather was pretty awful, but at least we'd be heading into summer soon. So why is my garden covered in ice?! And there might be a frost tonight. Impressive lightning, though, not that it's much of a consolation prize...

                    • Hurrah - proper rain overnight and still doing it. This will give the ground a good wetting. The old boys at the allotment say that watering stops things from dying, but it needs rain to make them grow. Not sure if it is right, but it sort of makes sense.

                      • I think is true. We've had a fair amount of rain on Thursday and Friday but when I was at my lottie yesterday a few inches down the soil was still quite dry. Everything was looking lush though.

                          • There are lots of very large raindrops falling here at the mo.

The cucurbits on my lottie are going to smashed to pieces. Keep trying to harden off the back up ones but have to keep bringing them back in again. It's all a bit poo!

Same... I don't trust long range forecasts too much but the 25 day forecast says 17 days of rain out of the next 25... it sucks.
