Fine here in SE London too. Tomorow is set to be blustery with rain I think.

Forecast here isn't too bad, no gales. However after a nice day we've just had a couple of really heavy rain/hail showers. Just painted the door of the outside loo, too!! Hope it'll be OK.

i've just been out to look at the North Sea - dead calm, no wind at all.

The calm before the storm? Or a false alarm?

Think the wind is starting to build up here. We have been warned that Pembrokeshire will be quite badly hit so Madmax bolted the greenhouse down today - here's hoping it will all be okay.

          Hang on tight everyone!

i feel sick i've had my greenhouse for 4 weeks and i live in the south west and live by slobs with loads of loose debris in there garden the only thing i can do is drink a couple of bottles of wine and pray for a false alarm. and maybe try not to cry to much if the worst does happen.
I'd rather regret the things i've done than regret not doing them at all.

samw04, I do hope it is a false alarm. I have only had mine a few weeks and would have a major hissy fit ( I would put my 5 month to shame) if my greenhouse gets any serious damage.

Hope you dont get any damage

Lozza and Sam, hope your G/houses are OK. The window to mine blew off, and I was outside in my dressing gown making repairs at 0700 ready for round two later today.

Hubby bought me a second greenhouse, we had put the framework together and it was just waiting for glass to go in. Got up this morning and framework is trashed bounced round the garden in the night narrowly missing my main greenhouse so nothing broken there. I am gutted, had weighted it down too. It is just a heap of mangled aluminium now

I feel very sorry for all those with greenhouse damage. So far mines okay but it's not done down here yet.

I remember the sick feeling of waking to a trashed greenhouse. It happened to me last year, we had one of the Ploycarbonate/Ali ones and it was just flattened completely by the wind.

We've got a stronger glass one now and yesterday we secured the door so it wouldn't blow open. We lost a pane of glass from the roof the other month in the winds and we find it's because the wind can get inside the greenhouse.

I did lose a cloche from my cauliflowers in to next doors garden. haven't managed to resecure it so the poor things are going to have to shiver today

Does anyone know if it is better to leave the doors/windows open on a greenhouse when it's blowing a gale?
My reasoning is the wind will pass through instead of bouncing around inside and smashing it up, or moving it bodily to another part of the garden/county

Well as I said above we've found it stands better against the wind if it's all closed down. The one we had previously was the same, if we left the door open then the panels would just pop out. Even happened sometimes when we just opened the door to step inside on a blustery day.

We think the roof panel popping out the other week was because the door blew open, whether if the door and the roof vents had been open that would have made a difference I don't know but wouldn't you be letting the cold in on any plants in there?

i'll let you know coz mine is 118 straight thru at mo with winds picking up i do know that if you have one with a base don't rely on the fixing that come with drilling thru and bolting the frame to the base would be better as that is what hubby will be doing this weekend to mine he might also be re-digging the trench and putting another ton of cement in. i can't believe that the wind blew it 3 inches off the fixings and bent them took 3 of us to slide it back.
