Yes Paul, you may be right with the Nemaslug. The asparagus surprised me, as did the snow - surrounded on three sides by water we do have a wierd little mircroclimate on Wirral. I know the slugs are up though, they nibbled my asparagus before the snow arrived! We haven't had a frost for some time so I took the risk.

One forecast I've seen says it will be Spring by Wednesday, but Winter again for the weekend.

Brilliant sunshine here now, and warm ...

In future you could get some roadsalt and sprinkle it on the asparagus beds...deters slugs, kills weeds and asparagus doesn't mind....jolly sight cheaper that nematodes. About a hand full to two square yards. suits mine.

Re nematodes you must use them in one go which is why I would have waited for lettuce and potato crop(and the hostas/dahlias) to get going but as I recall the treatment lasts about 6 weeks-2months or so. There was a lot and I think its a good idea to sell half to a friend to make it more affordable or to facilitate 2 treatments a year.

A cheaper option is to sprinkle some road salt on the asparagus beds -about a handful to a couple of square yards. Kills slugs and weeds asparagus(salt marsh origins) love it

As you must use all the nemaslug (quite a lot)at once it is better to share with a friend to reduce price/facilitate 2 treatments. I waited for spuds hostas lettuce brassicas to get going-Only lasts about 6/8 weeks but quite good stuff.

Lots of snow early on. Beautiful blue sky so went running. Unfortunately in last two miles was running on Moors into a light wind and got my bits very cold.
                  Unfreezing was painful:-)

Wintry showers here all day, but not much settling in the sunshine in between. Gale force winds and freezing temperature but its been 23 degrees in greenhouse.

                      Doesn't make sense does it!
